Alpacem Compass to zero CO₂
Cement is one of the most important building materials worldwide. It is used to construct roads, bridges, and buildings. At the same time, cement production causes CO₂ emissions, which is where we come in with our Alpacem Compass to zero CO₂ that aims to decarbonize our cement production, i.e., to achieve CO₂ neutrality.
Focus of our Alpacem Compass to zero CO2
Our Compass to zero CO2 focuses on the directly controllable CO2 emissions in our cement production. We are pursuing an avoidance strategy and preparing for future capture.
The roadmap to CO₂ neutrality is based on two key pillars:
- Avoidance: We use known technologies to prevent emissions from occurring in the first place. This includes optimizing fuels, processes, and products.
- Capturing: For emissions that cannot be avoided, we are developing solutions for CO₂ capture, including storage or utilization (CCS/CCU). Here, we are investing in research and pilot projects to actively shape the future.
