Alpacem and Buzzi expand strategic partnership
The two cement players Alpacem and Buzzi are deepening their long-standing strategic partnership in the Alpe-Adria region through an agreement signed on 4th of August 2023: Alpacem subsidiary w&p Cementi SpA is taking over the cement plant Fanna in the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia near Pordenone, which formerly belonged to Buzzi SpA. As part of this transaction, Buzzi SpA subscribes to a capital increase to acquire a 25 percent stake in the Austrian company Alpacem Zement Austria GmbH (formerly w&p Zement GmbH).
The two groups are thus extending their successful strategic partnership, which has existed in Italy and Slovenia since 2014, to Austria. Buzzi SpA already holds 25 percent of the shares in each of the two Alpacem subsidiaries, Salonit Anhovo d.d. (Slovenia) and w&p Cementi SpA (Italy). The agreement signed on 4th of August 2023 will only become effective after the antitrust clearance, which is expected to be completed in the course of 2024. Until completion, the cement plant Fanna will continue to operate under the name Buzzi Unicem Srl. There will be no changes for the employees of both companies as a result of the concluded agreement.
By deepening their partnership, Alpacem and Buzzi are strengthening their industrial alliance. Especially in the implementation of CO2-neutral production, the two groups expect considerable synergy effects from the extended partnership.
